21 x 6 number plates for 4x4s, vans and imports

Tall rear recesses on Land Rovers, pick-ups and imports need a taller plate. Here's when to use a 21 x 6.

What is a 21 x 6?

It's an oversize rear plate, about 533 mm wide and 152 mm tall. That's wider and taller than the standard 520 x 111 mm plate.

Who needs one

• Land Rover Defenders and Discoveries
• Pick-ups like the Hilux, Ranger and L200
• Some vans
• Imported cars with a squarer rear recess

If the recess is much taller than a standard plate, a 21 x 6 fills it properly.

Is it legal?

Yes. The characters and spacing stay the same as a standard plate. Only the background gets bigger.
